Sustainability at the Sunderland Hotel - Environmental protection & resource conservation.

Let's save the world - our "Big Five" of sustainability.

It has never been so easy to make a positive contribution to climate and environmental protection. Today, we have more opportunities than ever to act in an environmentally conscious way and improve our world - because every step counts!

Our lifestyles affect fragile ecosystems around the world, but the good news is that we can make a difference with conscious, sustainable action! Thanks to our current level of knowledge and innovative technologies, all doors are open to us to shape a green future together .

So let's get active together for more sustainability:

  • WE are taking responsibility for a green future!
  • WE lead the way as role models with courage and confidence!
  • WE are taking action and implementing sustainable measures!

Because everything - from our food, clothing, furniture and travel to waste avoidance - can contribute to a better and more environmentally conscious way of life. Let's take the first step towards a better social, ecological and economic world together now!

Our "Big Five" of sustainability:

  • SDG Goal 4: Quality education
  • SDG Goal 12: Sustainable consumption and production
  • SDG Goal 13: Climate action
  • SDG Goal 14: Life below water
  • SDG Goal 15: Life on land

Saving CO2 at the Sunderland Hotel - Climate Thaler" project.

In addition to our Greensign certification and the sustainability measures we have already implemented, we are also taking part in the "Klima-Taler"project. This involves downloading an app that records climate-friendly activities. Through particularly sustainable behaviour such as shopping with cloth bags, walking, cycling, setting up bird baths and much more, you can generate one Climate Thaler for every 5 kg of CO2 saved with the Climate Thaler app. The Climate Taler collected can be exchanged for discounts or other services in participating cities, retail outlets, cultural organisations, restaurants and hotels.

We support the project and collect Climate Taler together as a Sunderland team, which are used every month to offset CO2 emissions. In addition, collected climate tokens can be exchanged for services at the Sunderland Hotel: for three collected tokens you receive a relaxing sauna visit or for eight tokens a breakfast at half price.

Cow sponsorship - We support the Lebenshof fĂŒr KĂŒhe.

Sustainability and animal welfare are closely linked and are particularly important to us at the Sunderland Hotel. For this reason, we have a sponsorship for the Fleckvieh cow "Funny" at the "Bergwaldhof", a farm for cows and other animals.

The "Bergwaldhof" in Meinerzhagen is not far from the Sunderland Hotel, where cows and other animals have found a forever home. The cows are not farm animals on the farm and are allowed to age in peace. In addition to cow and donkey sponsorships, the "Bergwaldhof" also offers boarding places and cow cuddles.

Sustainable holidays - At the Sunderland Hotel.

For us, it is a matter of course to act in a way that conserves resources and protects the environment while promoting the biodiversity of plants and animals. We plant our terrace with insect-friendly native and nectar-rich plants to provide valuable habitats for bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects.

We also grow fresh mint on our terrace, which we use directly for our cocktails. Our own mint not only gives our cocktails a more intense flavour, but also promotes our sustainability goals. We avoid long transport routes and use more regional products.
